In such a confrontation, Krishna, I don't seek triumph, nor dominion, nor the joys of sovereignty. What worth is a throne, its accompanying luxuries, or even life itself {when stripped of loved ones}, Govinda? (1:32)

In the Vishnu Sahasranāma, a sacred text listing the thousand names of Sri Vishnu (13:135, Anushāsan Parva, Mahābhārata) "Govinda" appears as the 187th and the 539th name, highlighting its significance in Hindu tradition.
The name Govinda holds deep symbolism. In the word "Govinda," "Govu" denotes the sense organs, or Indriyas. Thus, Govinda embodies the concept of being the ruler of the sense organs.
